William Loflin

William Pierce (Bill) Loflin died peacefully on August 15, 2026, at home in Beaufort, South Carolina, in the arms of his beloved wife Kim with his devoted dog Dexter by his side. Bill is now resting in the arms of his Savior.

Bill was born in Augusta, Georgia and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County. In 1963, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Finance degree as a Joseph R. Lamar Scholar and a Regents Scholar, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, with a commission in the United States Army Reserve. After two years of active service, he returned home to Augusta to begin his 48-year career in real estate.

In 1972, he and his family relocated to Hilton Head Island, where he joined the Sea Pines Company, serving in sales and management. Bill returned to Augusta in 1976 and continued his career in real estate, development and construction in the Summerville area, specializing in urban infill and historic preservation. He developed several neighborhoods in the area that are still highly sought after.

In 1992, Bill and his family moved to Spring Island, South Carolina, for his final chapter in real estate sales and residential construction, adding a number of homes to that unique coastal community before retiring in 2014.

A lifelong avid golfer, Bill loved spending time in his beautiful garden, crossword puzzles, cross-country road trips with his dear friend Jim Teat, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. The Lord gave Bill an uncanny memory, a loving heart, and a spirit of encouragement. Bill used those gifts to glorify God as he served his family, friends and colleagues in many ways over many years, including staying in touch with family and friends new and old; encouraging and praying for them daily; and remembering and meeting others’ needs and concerns.

Bill is survived by his best friend and wife of 44 years, Kim Weigle Loflin, and their son James Robert (Rob) Loflin (Pamela Garrison), their daughter Catherine Loflin Hogewood (Mark), grandchildren Luke Hogewood, Anna Hogewood Cole (Jackson) and Mary Hogewood, and great-grandson Clarke Shepherd Cole, as well as his sister Jeanette Loflin Shackelford (Jim), and their nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son William Pierce Loflin III, his parents, William Robert and Rubye Steed Loflin, his brother William Robert Loflin, Jr., and his twin sister Patricia Loflin Blanchard. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Friends of Caroline Hospice for their loving care and support.
