Walter H. Eubanks

Walter H. Eubanks, born October 19, 1948, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the age of 77. He was a devoted husband to Beth, his bride of 43 years affectionately known as the “Frog”, dedicated father to their five children, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. First of six siblings and 46 first cousins, he was born number one and will remain that way in the hearts of those who loved him most.

Following elementary school at Mount St. Joseph and St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School, he attended St. John Vianney Minor Seminary in Savannah, GA, St. Charles Seminary in Baltimore, MD and Augusta College. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for twenty-one months as a Forward Observer in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. Following his service, he resumed his education at Augusta College completing what he called his “ten year plan,” graduating with a degree in Political Science and minor in Mathematics.

As owner of Eubanks Hardware for 14 years, Walter made many friends and countless memories as he helped people with projects big and small. As a teacher, Walter impacted numerous lives of students, families and coworkers at Aquinas High School, Richmond County Schools and Burke County High School. He continued his passion for education serving District 3 as a Richmond County Board of Education member from 2018 until his passing. Following his retirement, he treasured his time as manager of Brynwood Swim Club and work at Daniel Village Ace Hardware.

He was a proud member of his community: a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, a founding member of the Irish American Heritage Society - serving as treasurer and later named 2014 parade Grand Marshal, fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the “Old Men’s Lunch Club” and member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Above all else, his greatest joy was spending time with the Frog, and being surrounded by his family. A proud “Pops” to his grandchildren, and adoring father to his children, he loved an opportunity to have everyone together. He is survived by his wife, Beth, his children and ten grandchildren: Charles and Kristy Eubanks - Lilly and Kate, Daniel and Lauren Eubanks - Parker and Molly, Sarah and Jason Pociask - Emma, Maggie, Elizabeth, and Charlotte, Patricia Eubanks - Della Jane, and Michael and Brooks Eubanks - Davis. He is also survived by his siblings Susan and Sam Nicholson, Jane and Jim Gleichauf, Tony Eubanks, Preston Scoggins, Susanne and Bobby Rhoden, John and Frankie Bodie, and many extended family members, including numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends - some he could call by name, but he loved them all the same.

He was preceded in death by “Big Jane” Eubanks, “Mama Della” and “Daddy Jim” Bodie, Preston Eubanks, Patricia Scoggins, Edwin Bodie, and Brenda Bodie.

A vigil service will take place Thursday evening, June 25, 2026 at 5:30 PM at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the vigil, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with celebrant Fr. Mark Ross.
