Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Vivian J. “Vicki” McKnight, 106, loving wife of the late Eugene McKnight.
Vicki, born on March 9, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska, was the youngest of eight children and lived a life of dedicated service to her country and community. During World War II, Vivian served in the U.S. Navy's Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) from May 30, 1943 to November 20, 1945. Stationed in California, she worked in communications and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. After the war, Vivian worked as an X-ray file clerk at University Hospital until her retirement in 1985. She volunteered at the hospital for many years afterward. Vivian will be remembered for her lifelong commitment to service, compassion, and dedication to others.
She leaves behind a devoted friend that she viewed as a daughter, Victoria Burt.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Sophus and Emelia Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Towers, 724 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901 on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
