Suzanne Faircloth

Suzanne “Sue” Henderson Faircloth passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sue is survived by her sons, Coley Faircloth of Key West, Florida, and Matthew Faircloth (Candis) of Baxley, Georgia; her grandson, Cash Faircloth of Beech Island, South Carolina; and her brothers, Steve Henderson (Anne-Marie) of Evans, Georgia, Mike Henderson (Gina) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and David Henderson (Linda) of Augusta, Georgia. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends who were truly family to her.

Sue and her brothers grew up in Augusta in the Country Club Hills subdivision, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She often shared stories of the shenanigans they got into growing up and laughed about how it was nearly impossible to get into too much trouble because every mother in the neighborhood knew your parents and kept an eye on what you were doing. Country Club Hills was also where Sue formed many friendships that would last a lifetime.

Sue raised two sons and was profoundly devoted to their lives and interests. An avid sports fan, she enthusiastically supported all of their athletic pursuits, especially soccer. She was also a die-hard University of South Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves fan.

Sue had a remarkable career as an Emergency Room nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, which later became Trinity Hospital and then Piedmont Augusta. It was in the ER that many of her co-workers became lifelong friends. During her illness, many of those same friends became her caregivers, surrounding her with the compassion and friendship she had given to so many others throughout her nursing career. Their presence brought her great comfort and a big smile to her face.

Sue’s happy place was the beach, surrounded by friends and family. Those trips were filled with laughter, adventures, and stories that will live on and be told for years to come.

She also had a great love for animals, especially dogs, and shared her life with many beloved canine companions over the years.

A devoted member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Sue spent the past two years volunteering alongside fellow parishioners at the Master’s Table. She cherished this ministry, both for the opportunity to help others and for the fellowship she found there.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Anne Henderson and Larry Henderson, DDS.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many healthcare providers who cared for Sue throughout her journey, with special recognition to Danny Newman, MD, for the compassionate care he provided to her over the years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, Georgia 30907.
