Steven Alan Willgus

Steven Alan Willgus, 66, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on August 11, 2026, surrounded by family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, and his spirit will be greatly missed.

Born in Phoenix, Arizona on February 21, 1960, Steve grew up with his parents in the sleepy town of Lincolnton, Georgia. It was there–and later, in the beloved backwoods of Burke County, Georgia–that he developed an unconquerable spirit of adventure and grew to love the great outdoors and working with his hands. Steve was a self-proclaimed country boy who could work the land, track game both big and small, and fix nearly any car put in front of him.

Steve was married twice; first, to Penny Lynne McBurney in 1982, then to Babette Gwen Estepp in 1994. He had a total of seven children and considered fatherhood to be his greatest joy and accomplishment in life. Unto his children Steve imparted many skills and interests, including, but not limited to: safety and firearms handling, hunting and fishing, antique and luxury vehicles, Action and Adventure films, Fantasy and Science Fiction novels, Rock music, comic books, and much more.

His grandparents, Joshua Eileen Greer and Leo Lloyd Greer, and his cousin Michelle Thrailkill Martin, preceded him in death. Steve is survived by his parents Jerry Lee and Sharon Kay Willgus; his siblings Todd Lee Willgus and Nicole Willgus Conzett; his children Amy McBurney Reese, Paul Greer Willgus, Christian Nicole Kerr, Kathryn Lee Willgus, MiKayla Aaliyah McBride, Caziah Rashaad McBride, and MacKenzie Ja’Niyah McBride; and his grandchildren Landen, Alora, and D’ryus. A man of many talents, innumerable friends, and an unforgettable heart, Steve’s legacy endures through them.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son. All who knew him are invited to attend and share their favorite memories.
