Steven Michael Dunn, Sr.

Hephzibah, GA – Steven Michael Dunn, Sr., 74, entered into rest on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following a long illness. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Ann(Rice) Dunn. 

He was born in Flushing, New York, on October 7, 1951, to John Dunn and Eileen Dunn (Ellmer), Steve grew up in Greenlawn, New York, on Long Island, where he attended elementary through high school. An avid sports fan, Steve enjoyed playing all sports. He especially loved football, and played on the varsity team for his high school.

In 1970, Steve joined the United States Military. He was sent to Ft. Gordon, Georgia, later that year where he met his wife Carolyn. They were married June 10,1972. In the early years of their marriage, they welcomed a son, Steven, anda daughter, Laura. Steve and Carolyn celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their vows in a beautiful Recommitment Ceremony in 1997, that was attended by their friends and family. They were parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Augusta, Georgia, for more than 30 years, where they both served on many groups and committees. Steve and Carolyn were man and wife for 54 years.

Steve proudly served the United States Army for twenty years as a Staff Sergeant. During that time, his military service took him on a tour of duty in Korea; two tours of duty in Germany; and, tours in Hawaii, Texas, New Jersey, and Georgia. While serving, Steve received several awards and commendations for his patriotism and military service.

In addition to his military career, Steve worked as a part-time courier for Purolator Courier Corporation for many years. After military retirement, he owned and operated his own company, Dunn Trucking, in Hephzibah, Georgia. He later took over the operations of Kadeke Express Courier Corporation in 2008. Steve had a true passion for his Catholic faith that he expressed through his commitment and service to the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th Degree Knight (the highest rank) and served that organization for 20 years. Steve was also a proud member of the Honor Guard for the Knights of Columbus. He was honored to represent them in all ways, but especially by attending funerals for other knights/brothers that had passed.

In his free time, Steve enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams. Any given weekend could find him watching the NFL, Nascar, and wrestling. He loved theGeorgia Bulldogs and especially, loved the Atlanta Falcons. His family recalls that he once broke two fingers when jumping up during an exciting moment while watching the Falcons, He enjoyed making Lego creations in his spare time and spending time with his family, especially watching old television programs with his granddaughters. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

In addition to his wife, family members include his son, Steven Dunn, Jr.; daughter, Laura Dunn Doyle; granddaughters, Karter Doyle and Khloe Doyle; and, brothers, Kevin Dunn, Richard Dunn, and Timothy Dunn. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Dunn, Jr.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home for their constant care and concern for not only Steve, but for the family as well. Their love and support has meant so much to the Dunn family through the years.

The family will receive friends on July 30, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2607 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30906. The memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Cornelius Anene celebrant.
