Sharon "Dee" Mauntel

Sharon "Dee" Karraker Mauntel, 85, entered into eternal rest on July 25, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1940, in Sullivan, Missouri, to the late Joseph Karraker and Virginia (Henry) Karraker.

Dee was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, her students, her Church, and her community.

After graduating from St. Francis Borgia High School, Dee attended the University of Houston before transferring to the University of Missouri, where she earned her teaching degree. She devoted her life to Catholic education, teaching at St. Patrick Catholic School in Missouri and later at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Kokomo, Indiana, where she touched the lives of many students through her patience and kindness.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1969, Dee married Paul Vincent Mauntel. Together they shared more than fifty-six years of marriage rooted in faith, love, and commitment.

In 1991, Dee and Paul moved to Kokomo, Indiana. Dee continued her life of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Harrison Township Fire Department, earning her NFPA Fire Instructor I and II certifications and becoming an active member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. She was admired for her courage, compassion, and dedication to helping others.

In her younger years, Dee was a rodeo queen and enjoyed riding horses. She remained active in her Catholic faith throughout her life, serving with the Daughters of Isabella and caring for altar linens for many years. She was also a generous blood donor through the American Red Cross.

Dee will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness, faith, and strength touched all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Vincent Mauntel; children, Marlo Mahaney (Bruce) and John Mauntel (Mary Jarrett); grandchildren, Faith Freeman, Madelyn Mauntel, Philip Freeman, Carter Mauntel, and Ephraim Mauntel; siblings Terry Karraker (Joyce) and Laurie Causey (Hunter).

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Grace Mauntel, and her parents.

The funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Teresa of Avila with Fr. Tim McKeown celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the church.

"Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen."
