Sharon Kay Matthews (née Keuter), 77, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. Born on February 23, 1949, in Salem, Oregon, to Betty Payne and Edmund Keuter, Sharon lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.
Sharon pursued her education with determination, earning both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Her passion for learning and sharing knowledge led her to become a gifted teacher who touched the lives of many through her work. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sharon's life was defined by her deep faith in Jesus Christ. As a devoted member of Quest Church, she found joy in leading Bible studies and caring for children in the church nursery. Family was at the heart of Sharon's life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ron Matthews, with whom she shared countless adventures traveling in their RV. Together they created cherished memories exploring new places and enjoying each other's company. Sharon is survived by her loving children: daughter Debbie Matthews and son John Matthews (wife Stephanie). She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Emily Matthews and Benjamin Matthews, who brought immense joy to her life. Sharon is also survived by her siblings: brother Dan Keuter (wife Becky) and sister Becky Connelly (husband Bill). Their bond remained strong throughout the years as they supported one another through life's journey. In addition to her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher, Sharon found fulfillment in creative pursuits. She had a talent for crochet, cross-stitching, painting, and sewing—skills that reflected her patience and artistic spirit. These hobbies brought beauty into the lives of those around her. She enjoyed puzzles and games with her friends at the Claiborne and always had a big smile for others. Sharon's legacy is one of love, faithfulness, and creativity. Her unwavering devotion to her family and church community will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind as they celebrate the remarkable life she lived.
