Robert "Rob" Williams Rice, III

Rob entered into rest on July 21, 2026.

He is survived by his loving father, Robert Williams Rice, Jr (Will), his sister, Carter, and his stepmother, Catherine. He is also survived by his grandparents, Bill and Marian Clark; his aunts and uncles, Adrian and John Robinson, and Howard and Hallie Merry; his cousins, Will and Rice Robinson, and Vee Merry; and his step-siblings Kennedy, Clay and Locke McKnight. Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Rice; his grandmother, Charlotte Merry (“C”); and his grandfather, Robert W. Rice (“Boo Pops”).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 2:00 PM at St Paul’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Eric Biddy officiating. The family will receive friends following in the River Room at St. Paul’s.

Rob had a deep love for the outdoors and embraced every opportunity for adventure. He spent countless days fly fishing in North Carolina and Wyoming and completed the National Outdoor Leadership School Spring Semester in the Rocky Mountains, where he discovered a passion for rock climbing. He later returned to climb again with instructors who had become mentors and friends. Rob also enjoyed several cross- country trips from Georgia to Colorado and Wyoming, including a memorable journey with his father through Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. At home, Rob found joy in cooking, often preparing elaborate meals on a whim. He cherished the friendships he built with his SAE fraternity brothers and his lifelong friends from Augusta, treasuring afternoons spent golfing and grilling together. He and his dog, Bear, shared many days hiking in the mountains and spending time on the dove field.

A lifelong lover of film, Rob approached life with the same sense of charisma,

adventure, and appreciation he found in his favorite movies. His passions for cinema and the outdoors were matched only by his love for the people with whom he shared them. His connection to nature began at his family’s home in Highlands, North Carolina, where he taught his sister, Carter, how to fish and skip rocks in the Chattooga River.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Goizueta Alzheimer Disease Research Center at Emory University or St. Pauls’s Church.
