Robert Milton “Bob” Larkin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bob was the son of Milton Pryor Larkin and Bessie Walton Larkin. After graduating from Ringgold High School, he served four years in the United States Coast Guard as a navigator and rescue swimmer, where he also pitched fast‑pitch softball.
Following his service, Bob played football under legendary coach Bobby Bowden at South Georgia College before transferring to the University of Georgia. He was a proud member of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity and pitched fast‑pitch softball for ATO intramurals. It was at UGA where he met the love of his life, Carole, whom he married in 1963.
After earning his degree in Agricultural Engineering, Bob and Carole made their home in Augusta, GA, where Bob joined the family business, Busby’s Heating and Air Conditioning. He designed commercial HVAC systems throughout the region and retired as President of the company in 2005.
Bob was an outdoorsman at heart, and he loved hunting and fishing. He was also a former member of the Augusta Jaycees and the Pinetucky Gun Club, and a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan. He spent many years coaching his children in Little League youth sports — softball with his daughter Tracye, and football and baseball with his son Bob Jr. — sharing his love of athletics and the values of hard work and sportsmanship.
Bob and Carole traveled extensively, both internationally and across the United States, always grateful to return home to their beloved pet dogs. Bob and Carole were members of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Carole; his children Robert M. Larkin Jr. (Becky) of Evans, Georgia, and Tracye Larkin Foy (Kevin) of Highland Park, Illinois; and his grandson Larkin Dalton Foy of Highland Park, Illinois. He is also survived by his brother James Pryor Larkin of Townsend, Georgia, and his sister Ann Larkin Croswell of Lakeland, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Wayne Larkin and his sister Wanda Larkin Bennett.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters‑in‑law, Maria Larkin and Marguerite Larkin, and former daughter‑in‑law, Amy Larkin. The family also offers their deepest gratitude to his wonderful caregivers, Latia Frye and Dayanny Ramirez, whose kindness and loving care were a blessing to Bob and to all who loved him.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the CSRA Humane Society, 425 Wood St., Augusta, GA 30904, or to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th St., Augusta, GA 30901.
