Philip S. Vrana

Philip S. Vrana, age 88, of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away on September 1, 2026, while receiving hospice care in Nashville, Tennessee.

Philip was born on January 10, 1938, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to the late Stanley Vrana and Amelia Sisko Vrana. He graduated from Hawkins High School.

Philip proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He began his military career as a radar operator, serving in that field for seven years before becoming a computer specialist. His military awards include the Bronze Star during his service in Vietnam. Following his distinguished military service, Philip continued his career with Digital Equipment Corporation, from which he later retired.

For 45 years, Philip was a devoted member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He treasured time spent with his family, especially family cookouts and gatherings. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Philip will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, generosity, strong values, devotion to family, and his kind, accepting, and nonjudgmental nature. He had a special ability to make others feel welcome and valued.

Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Vrana; his daughter, Amelia Vrana; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Vrana.

He is survived by his children, Calvin Vrana, Laura Vrana Simmons, and Rebecca Hipol; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Barbra Vrana Bebak; and many other loving relatives and friends. His memory will live on through the generations of the family he loved so dearly.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, Georgia. A priest from St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather at the cemetery beginning at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity close to your heart in Philip’s memory.

The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and medical staff of the Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Clarksville for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided to Philip.

The family also wishes to recognize Luke Teague, an outstanding member of the staff at Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, for his exceptional assistance and support. Poteet & Son Funeral Directors of Augusta, Georgia, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
