Augusta, GA — Patricia "Trisha" Fernald Sasnett, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and tireless champion of the Augusta community, entered into rest peacefully on July 6, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. She was 80 years old.
Born on March 21, 1946, Trisha was a lifelong resident of Augusta. She graduated from the Academy of Richmond County, where she brought joy and energy to the student body as a cheerleader. She pursued her higher education at Converse College before attending the University of Georgia, where she was a proud and active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Upon returning home to Augusta, Trisha began a successful career in banking at the Georgia Railroad Bank. It was during this chapter of her life that she met the love of her life, Richard B. Sasnett, Jr., who was then a student at the Medical College of Georgia. The couple was wed at the First Presbyterian Church, beginning a beautiful partnership that blessed them with 54 years of marriage, deep companionship, and a growing family.
Trisha’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a fierce and loving matriarch who poured her heart and soul into raising her two children, Richard B. Sasnett III and Katharine Sasnett Bailey. She embraced her role as "Tish Tish" with unmatched devotion, fiercely supporting her five grandchildren in all of their endeavors and instilling in them the values of grace, family tradition, and community. In her spare time, she delighted in cooking beautiful meals for those she loved and tended to her garden with the same care and patience she gave to her family.
Beyond her home, Trisha left an indelible mark on the civic and cultural fabric of Augusta. Always a proud supporter of the arts, she dedicated her time, leadership, and energy to enriching the city she loved. She was a passionate past volunteer for the Junior League of Augusta, served as a Trustee for the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, and was a dedicated member of the Augusta Symphony Guild. Her warmth, elegance, and gift for bringing people together made her a treasured friend to many.
Trisha is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Richard B. Sasnett, Jr.; her son, Richard B. Sasnett III and his wife, Taite; her daughter, Katharine Sasnett Bailey and her husband, Blake; and her five cherished grandchildren, Richard Borden Sasnett IV, Martha Taite Sasnett, Mary Knowles Sasnett, Catherine Grace Sasnett, and Anne Harris Sasnett. She is also survived by Shirley Harris, who was a deeply special friend and devoted caregiver to Trisha for 30 years.
The family will gather for a private graveside service, followed by a public memorial service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Trisha’s honor to support the organizations that meant so much to her: The Reid Memorial Foundation (reidchurchaugusta.org) or The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (ghia.org)
