Martha Gibson Balk

Martha Gibson Balk, only child of Lela and William B. Gibson, was born April 23, 1936 in Fort Myers, Florida. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Druid Hills High School. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a majorette for the UGA Redcoat Band and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

She was a member of the Trinity-on-the-Hill Global Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the “Adult Couples and Singles” class and the Trinity-on-the-Hill Sanctuary Choir. She was also a member of the Wood Valley Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughters Phyllis Hodges Collier (Robert),Paige Hodges Usry (Brad). Her stepchildren Bruce Balk, Claire Balk Dalton (Chad) and Chum Balk (Ann Megan). Her grandchildren Riah Collier (Tamara), Blake Collier (Camila) Jordan Collier (Meagan), Havird Usry, and Hodges Usry (Fallon), Ian (Sarah), Forrest (Caitlin), Harrison and Madison Balk and Wood Dalton. She is also survived by 13 beautiful great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Arthur Jordan Balk Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Trinity on the Hill with Rev. Scott Hearn officiating. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Area at Trinity from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Adult Couples and Singles Sunday School Class and members of the Wood Valley Garden Club. Phyllis and Paige request that attendees dress cheerfully as mom loved color.
