Martinez, GA — Lieutenant Colonel Brian Milton Johnston, U.S. Army, Retired, age 67, entered into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 17, 2026. He was the loving husband of Dr. Kaymie Marie Johnston and a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Brian was a retired nurse with a career in critical care, trauma, and public health. He devoted 40 years to serving his country, first as a Navy corpsman and later as an Army nurse, with reserve service between his two military careers. Through his years of service, he touched lives around the world, and many of those friendships became lifelong family.
Brian had a true servant’s heart and was always ready to help others, no matter the need. His faith was at the center of his life, and he loved his church, Quest Church in Grovetown, Georgia. He also treasured his community at Kim’s Martial Arts, where the friendships, fellowship, and camaraderie meant so much to him.
Brian loved pickleball, kayaking, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He possessed an incredible sense of humor and a warmth that made people feel welcome. And, of course, his distinguished mustache was one of his unmistakable trademarks. Those who knew Brian would be hard pressed to meet someone with a more kind, genuine, and generous soul.
Brian is survived by his wife of 14½ years, Dr. Kaymie Johnston; his 11-year-old son, Declan Wallace Johnston, who was the joy of his heart; his daughter, Jennifer Klotter (Chris) of Minnesota; and his beloved granddaughters, Stevie, Aubrey, and Rory. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Susan Johnston of Kansas; nephew Zach Johnston and his wife, Shay; and nephew Matt Johnston and his wife, Jenny, along with countless friends who became family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy Miller Johnston and Milton Wallace Johnston, his son, Steven Wallace Johnston, and his brothers, Robert Wallace Johnston and Bruce Johnston.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Quest Church in Grovetown, Georgia, with Pastor Dusty Wammack officiating.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many medical professionals who cared for Brian during his final days, and to the countless friends and loved ones who surrounded Brian, Kaymie, and Declan with prayers, love, and support. We will never be able to adequately express our gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Quest Church in Grovetown, Georgia, whose ministry faithfully serves as the hands and feet of Jesus in the community.
Brian was a light in this world. Our hope is that all who knew and loved him will carry that light forward to serve, to love generously, to laugh often, to help others, and to continue to be the good.
His work here is finished. His race has been run. And he is finally home.
