Kester Black

Augusta, GA – Mr. Kester Black, 96, beloved husband of 71 years to Betty Andrews Black, entered into eternal rest on July 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Kester was the son of David Ozie Black and Fronie Marsh Black of Avera, Georgia. He grew up on a farm and left home at the age of 18 to begin service to his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey.

He married Betty Jean Andrews on April 16, 1955 after a brief courtship. Betty was truly the love of his life and the best decision he ever made. Kester retired from DuPont and Westinghouse after many years of service. He began his career with DuPont in the mid 1950’s and was among the first workers to pave the way for future employees of what is now Savannah River Site.

In his younger days, Kester loved to fish and refinish antique furniture, which he did precisely and beautifully, but his greatest joy was spending time on the family farm tending to his lush vegetable garden.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Robbie Kester Black of Augusta and Michelle Black Gilliard of Evans; grandchildren: Jessica Black Seigler and Ellie Gilliard Savage (Hunter); great granddaughter: Logan Taylor Seigler, who was his special pride and joy; siblings: Don Black, Jimmy Black, Jean McCoy, and Jenelle Shelton, and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held.
