John McDonald Tompkins

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Mr. John McDonald Tomkins, 87, loving husband of the late Annette Tompkins.

John was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA. He attended & graduated from Boys Catholic High. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He loved cruising his houseboat on the Savannah River with the love of his life Annette Fox Tompkins who passed three years earlier. His second love was the building business. He did have a brief tenure in the Army Reserves and worked at International Paper. While at International Paper, he had some paper rolls fall on him which broke his legs, but that did not stop him from marrying Annette Fox. Both his legs were in casts when John married Annette. John worked for his uncle Johnny Macdonald (of McDonald’s Grocery) building houses. He worked Gary Concrete, and his first job with them was the concrete on Georgia Railroad Bank building on Broad Street. John went on to be a builder and developer. He put together subdivisions and projects and built houses all over the CSRA.

We have just lost the best Dad in the world with the biggest heart. John was the most honest person. If you ever met him, you would know he always put others’ interests in front of his own and would help anyone who needed it. He was also a dad for all who needed that figure in their life.
