John McGregor Phillips

Martinez, GA – John McGregor Phillips, 73, husband of Karen Doolittle Phillips, entered peacefully into rest at home on Monday, December 14, 2020.

A native of Pennsylvania, John was drafted into the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division as an Army Ranger. He was born to be a fierce, proud Screaming Eagle. John and his family relocated to Augusta in the early 90’s to advance his career with the Department of Energy at Savannah River Site. John was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud Pop to his grandchildren. He was larger than life and some of his stories were even larger than that. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help his friends. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and lover of all animals.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughters: Kate Phillips Anderson (Eric), Elizabeth Kaye Phillips; stepson: Eric Doolittle, Jr. (Allie); stepdaughter: Heather D. Nichols (Casey); grandchildren: Quinn McGregor Anderson, Ian McNeillie Anderson, Mason S. Doolittle, Jade A. Doolittle, J.J. Nichols and Lillian R. Nichols; brother: Greg F. Phillips (Terry); sister: Connie Susich (the late Paul); and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years: Jill McNeillie Phillips; and his parents: John and Roseann Phillips.

The family welcomes visitors at Thomas Poteet on Friday, December 18, 2020 between 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. A brief memorial and celebration of life will take place at 3:00 P.M.
