John "Johnny" Everett Whittle III

John Everett “Johnny” Whittle III went home to be with Jesus on Monday, July 20, 2026. Johnny was a native and a lifelong resident of the Augusta area. He was a 1974 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. The day after graduating from Richmond Academy, he began a career in law enforcement that lasted 50 years. He served with the Augusta Police Department for four years before moving to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office where he retired as a Captain in 2024.

Though Johnny was known for his strength, determination, and unwavering character, those who knew him best also knew the depth of his faith. He was a godly man who loved Jesus with all his heart and cherished his family above all else. His greatest desire was for everyone he met to know the love of Jesus Christ and the hope found in Him. Johnny believed the most important decision anyone could ever make was to accept God’s free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and he lived his life pointing others toward that truth.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Sizemore Whittle, his son: J. Ryan Whittle (Mary), his daughter: Rachael Hayden (Tanner); brothers: Clay Whittle (Bonnie); Ken Whittle, sisters: Beth Hensley and Krystle Whittle Harden (Steve); grandchildren: Emma, Mason, Brynlee, Cooper and Annie. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Everett Whittle, Jr. and Nancy Woodard Whittle and by his in-laws, Jason G Sizemore and Jean B Sizemore.

His Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11 AM at West Acres Baptist Church with Pastor Malone Morris and Rev. Terry Jackson officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, 10 AM, at the church. Memorials may be made to West Acres Baptist Church, 555 Gibbs Rd, Evans, GA 30809.

“Remember what God has done in your life—how His faithfulness carried you when you didn’t have the strength to carry yourself (Lamentations 3:22–23).

Remember His mercy that met you in moments of weakness and covered you when you fell short (Psalm 103:8)

Remember His grace that sustained you in pressure and multiplied strength in places of limitation (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Remember His healing power that restored what was wounded, broken, or weary (Psalm 147:3)

This is not just reflection—it is revelation.

What God has already done is proof of what He is still willing to do.

The testimonies over these past 2 years are prophetic markers, reminding you that the same hand that delivered, healed, and provided has not been withdrawn.

The challenge is this:

Do not enter the next season with a short memory or a small expectation.

Take time to recount the breakthroughs, write down the answered prayers, and speak out loud the miracles God performed.

Let remembrance become fuel for faith.

Refuse to minimize what God has done, and refuse to doubt what He has promised.

As you step forward, declare it boldly:

If He was faithful then, He will be faithful again.

If He healed before, He will heal again.

If He made a way in the past, He will surely open greater doors ahead.

Let my life serve as a remembrance …a remembrance to move you to a deeper trust, a greater obedience, and a bolder faith in the One who created you and loves you with a love that has no end!” -Johnny Whittle
