John Douglas "Doug" Wilson

Martinez, GA – John Douglas “Doug” Wilson, 86, died on September 16, 2026. Born in Columbia, SC and raised in Irmo, SC, Doug moved to Augusta in 1956. He was the eldest of six children of the late Emily and Willard Wilson.

Doug was a graduate of the first graduating class of Aquinas High School, Augusta, GA in 1958, attended Georgia Tech, and graduated from Southern Technical Institute, Marietta, GA with an Associate Degree in Heating and Air Conditioning Technology in 1968. He served in the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. Doug was formerly employed with Mingledorff’s Inc. as a territory manager and later by the Creighton Laircey Company. He was a former owner of Augusta Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc.; worked in outside sales for Fox Appliance of Augusta and later for Epting Distributors. Doug was the proud recipient of the 2008 Ambassador Award presented by Epting Distributors for outstanding Commitment to Tempstar Heating and Cooling products and to Epting Distributors. Doug was owner and CEO of D’Antignac and Merritt Heating and Air Conditioning. He taught Heating and Air Conditioning classes at Augusta Area Technical School for a number of years and served on the Advisory Board at Augusta Tech. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 677, the Conditioned Air Association of Georgia (CAAG), a member of the Shade Tree A’s, (A model club) and the Quadragenta Investment Club. Doug was a longtime member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and the Irish American Heritage Society, and he was selected as the 2020 Grand Marshal of the Irish American Heritage Society.

Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sheila O’Connor Wilson; sons, Paul Douglas (Lynn) Wilson of Hurley, MS, and Patrick Wilson of Augusta; grandchildren, Jeffrey Wilson and John Thomas Wilson of Hurley, MS, and Landrey Hancock (Blake), Sara Grace Wilson, and Joseph Wilson of Augusta, GA; siblings, Marie Derrick (Kenny), Sharon Boucknight (Doug) of Irmo, SC, Faye Hammett of Burnettown, SC, and Michael Wilson (Debbie) of Ballentine, SC. He was predeceased by his brother, Dwight Wilson of Conway, SC, and his brother-in-law J.D. Hammett of Burnettown, SC.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. Inurnment to follow at St. Mary’s Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends forty-five minutes prior to the service in the Narthex of the Church.
