Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, John Thomas Ashworth, 71, loving husband of Dayna Ashworth.

John will be remembered for his kind heart, faithful service, and love for his family. He truly never met a stranger, and his warmth and friendly spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. John proudly served 21 years in the United States Army retiring as a Staff Sergeant with the military police. A loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan, he was also a passionate competitive bowler. As manager of Northside Lanes in North Augusta, John shared his love of bowling by teaching children's lessons on Saturday mornings for many years.

Above all, John cherished his family. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, he found his greatest joy in the time he spent with them.

John's legacy of service, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, family members include his children: Tori Ashworth, Chadwick Ashworth, Jay O’Brien (Jackie), Lauren Terrell (Tyler Johnson), and Adam Fortenberry (Annamay); grandchildren: Stormy Ashworth, Trystan Ashworth, Roman Hassler, Brice Blain, Asher O’Brien, Atlee Fortenberry, and Sadie Fortenberry; niece and nephew: Michele Warren Johnson (Steve) and Mike Shelton (Joy); great niece: Tiffany Pritchett; and special brother from another mother: Dale Vickers (DLyne).

He is preceded in death by his parents: George and Mildred Ashworth; son: David Ashworth; and sisters: Alma Jean Shelton and Betty Ann Warren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Cancer Center.

Services will be private.
