Harriett “Faye” Flynn Hayden, 87 of Appling, Georgia, entered into rest on Friday, July 3, 2026 at her residence.
Born on January 17, 1939 in Augusta, Georgia to the late William Lafayette Flynn and Harriett Strawhorn Flynn, Faye attended The Academy of Richmond County and graduated from Evans High School in 1957. She began a career as a lab technician in the Research and Education Department at the Medical College of Georgia later becoming a supervisor in the surgery department. During her years of employment she saw numerous medical students, medical illustrators, and dental students come through the department. She retired after 37 years of service.
Faye was a faithful member of Warren Baptist Church where she was baptized as a child. She spent many years serving in the capacity of secretary in the numerous Sunday school classes she was a part of during her 75 year membership. She was quiet but also very strong and independent. She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart.
Faye is survived by her daughter Susan Thigpen (Jerry), grandchildren Brandy Powell, Amanda Powell (Tony), Jacob Thigpen, and Rebekah Thigpen; great grandchildren Porter Smith and Parker Smith, son in law Steve Byrd, nieces, Janet Edwards, Judy Friddle, Vickie Beckum, Jan Mandes, Carol Burke , Lynda ,and nephew Lance Jensen.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. William L. Flynn, husband Robert Hayden, daughter Robin Hayden Byrd, and six siblings: James, Bill, Margaret, Henry, and Mae.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Warren Baptist Church Augusta, 3203 Washington Road Augusta, Georgia 30907. A visitation with family and friends will take place prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Thigpen, Steve Byrd, Robbie Jones, and Scott Lee.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Warren Baptist Church Augusta 3203 Washington Road Augusta, Georgia.
