Gerald “Jerry” Joseph LeZotte Jr., age 81, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026.
Jerry was born on November 1, 1944, in Augusta, Georgia, to Gerald LeZotte Sr. and Evelyn Bull LeZotte. His father passed away when Jerry was very young, and he was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Donald MacDonald, whose guidance and influence helped shape the man he became.
Jerry dedicated much of his professional life to WJBF-TV, where he began working during his college summers and remained throughout his career until his retirement in 2001.
Jerry had a lifelong love of sports and enjoyed following and discussing athletics with family and friends. More than anything, however, he took great pride in his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather whose greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren grow and succeed. His love, guidance, and unwavering support will be remembered by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his children, Jerry LeZotte (Ashley), Matt LeZotte (Lindsay), Tony LeZotte (Katey), and Katherine Fortson (Lombard); his former wife, Patty; his sister, Adriance Galloway, and her husband, Pete Galloway; and his twelve beloved grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald LeZotte Sr.; his mother, Evelyn Bull LeZotte MacDonald; and his stepfather, Donald MacDonald.
Jerry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his dedication to family, his love of sports, and the pride he took in those he loved most. His legacy lives on through the children and grandchildren who were the center of his life and his greatest source of joy.
The memorial service will be held Monday, July 6, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son and the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM.
