Augusta, GA - Frank William Allen, 82, entered into rest on October 19, 2026, in Albany, GA with his daughters by his side.
Frank was born in Durham, North Carolina on December 11,1943. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown Allen, and his beloved wife, Suzanne Mearns Allen. Frank spent his childhood years in Norfolk, Virginia, where he enjoyed surfing, boating, and water skiing, supported by his first jobs running paper routes and trapping. Upon graduation from high school, he began his college studies and was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Frank went on to attend the University of Georgia School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree in 1969. Although Frank was both a Tarheel and a Bulldog, he was a true Carolina blue Tarheel fan until the end.
Frank married the love of his life, Suzanne Mearns, on August 30, 1966, in Ft. Meyer Chapel in Arlington, Virginia. After earning his law degree, Frank and Suzanne settled in Augusta where they raised their family. It was here that Frank began his legal career and eventually co-founded the firm of Huggins and Allen, P.C. with his dear friend, Charles Thomas Huggins. He spent much of his career with this firm, specializing in family law, bankruptcy, personal injury, and real estate. He was universally respected in the legal community for his work ethic, professional ethics, and unwavering commitment to his clients’ needs. He quietly committed countless hours mentoring many young attorneys embarking on their careers. He served as President of the Augusta Bar Association in 1991. His legal career spanned nearly 50 years before his retirement in 2018.
Frank was a long-time member of The Church of the Good Shepherd and was an avid outdoorsman and athlete. Frank was fiercely loyal to his friends, forging deep relationships. Indeed, time spent with friends on camping and canoeing trips or on the golf course and tennis court was a highlight for him. Over the years, he and Suzanne jetted off on snow skiing trips with family and friends and spent time at their home in the North Carolina mountains where he always found a project around the house to keep him busy. He was handy and practical, accumulating a collection of tools and replacement parts for virtually everything he owned. In recent years, he enjoyed pickleball and was often seen walking his beloved companions, Cooper and Molly, greeting the neighbors, human and canine alike.
Frank was a man of few words, but he was a powerful presence and always listening. Often, he found just the right moment to inject his quick wit, stirring laughter among his family and friends, but often drowned out by his laughter at himself. In serious times, he could be counted on for perspective, guidance, and wisdom, offered gently from life experiences and a genuine love for family and his close friends. As an only child who lost his mother at a young age, family was especially important to him. Long hours at work did not keep him from prioritizing time with his daughters, who could always count on him for a princess carry to bed, a candy-filled heart every Valentine’s Day, and, in later years, a car checked and fueled prior to all road trips. Kim and Kari's friends also relished his games and child-like spirit. Although Frank dedicated his professional time to the practice of law, he considered his most impactful accomplishment to be his children, for whom he would do anything. His greatest joy in later years was his grandchildren, to whom he was known as G-Dad. He doted on them shamelessly, hosting family beach and mountain trips, gatherings by the pool, and attending sporting events. They remember their G-Dad as a fun-loving guy who taught them all to drive a stick shift and was always up for fun and games.
He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Allen Garrison and Karin "Kari" Allen Middleton (Faison); grandchildren, Bailey Garrison Canada (Jason), Kathryn Carlisle “Carly” Garrison, William Frank Garrison, Frank Faison Middleton V, and William Boles Middleton; and great-granddaughter, Blair Elizabeth Canada.
The family would like to give special thanks to Frank’s caregivers for their love and devotion to him, especially Shirley, Shalonda and Katie, who were with him during the final weeks of his life. They would also like to thank Phoebe Hospice, Affinis Hospice and Wynfield Park for their expertise and compassion.
