Frances Becker Mercer, age 98, of Evans, GA passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Katie Hill Becker and Richard I. Becker, her husband, Miles F. Mercer, Jr., and siblings Doris Russ Suggs and Betty Richardson. She is survived by her children Kathleen Bates (Ernie), Ann Leonard (Leo), Scott Mercer (Robb) and grandchildren Laura Sharif, Katie Mercer, Richard Mercer, Ryan Gundy, Ross Gundy and Kevin Bates as well as great-grandchildren.
Frances was born in Acme-Delco, North Carolina on January 18, 1928. She attended Acme-Delco High School. She spent most of her adult years working in car dealerships beginning in Wallace, North Carolina in the early 1950’s and in Augusta beginning in the late 1950’s. In Augusta she worked at Daniel’s Lincoln-Mercury and Duke Buick until her retirement.
After her retirement, Frances spent her time playing golf at “The Patch” with Diane Shuler, Barbara Greene, Mary Louise Kressly and Norma Ingram. She played her last round at age 90. Her second love was bridge, and she enjoyed playing at The Augusta Bridge Center. Frances always wished she could have attended college so after retirement, she took classes at Augusta State University under their program for senior citizens until she was no longer able to drive.
Frances led a full life and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Rd. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 10:00 AM with service at 11:00 AM, followed by internment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all those who helped make Frances’ last weeks comforting, including Diane Shuler, Barbara Greene, Mary Louise Kressly and the SouthEast Hospice nurses and therapists.
