Darrell O. Kaminer, 79, of Grovetown, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A lifelong resident of the Central Savannah River Area, Darrell lived a life defined by service, hard work, devotion to family, and a genuine appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Born in Augusta, Georgia on May 21, 1947, Darrell proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, earning numerous awards and commendations for his service. Following his military career, he spent many years as a successful automobile salesman, building lasting relationships and earning the trust of customers throughout the community.
Darrell shared a beautiful love story with his wife, Holly. The two met in 1967 while he was stationed in Long Beach, California during his service in the United States Navy. They were married in Las Vegas on March 26, 1969, just days before he was deployed to Vietnam. After his military service, they chose to make Georgia their home, where they would raise their family together. Darrell often assured Holly that the freshwater fishing was much better on the East Coast—a convincing argument that helped bring her across the country. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and never passed up an opportunity to spend time outdoors. He especially treasured the moments when family members wanted to take a break and go fishing with him. Whether on the water, in the woods, or gathered with family, he found happiness in simply being together.
Known affectionately as “Grandpa and Papa” to his grandchildren, Darrell will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quick wit, Southern humor, and an unmistakable sweet tooth. He had a way of making people laugh with his stories, sayings, and unique Southern expressions. In his later years, he could often be found relaxing in his recliner, enjoying his favorite television shows, and relishing the comfort of being surrounded by those he loved.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mattie Lou Meadowcroft.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Holly Armstrong Kaminer; his children, Shannon Hodson (Jeff), Chris Kaminer, and Woody Kaminer (Laura); his sister, Charlotte McCoy; his grandchildren, Jay Hodson (Tatum), Collin Hodson, Olivia Hodson Galloway (Brett), Madison Kaminer, Bayle Kaminer, Blake Kaminer, Logan Kaminer, and Lucy Claire Kaminer; and his great-grandchildren, Alice Hodson, Penelope Hodson, and Jack Hodson.
Though he will be deeply missed, the laughter he shared and the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
