Darrell Wright

Augusta, GA – Mr. Lester Darrell Wright, 78, entered into rest on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Darrell was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA and was the son of the late Leonard and Florence Wright. He was devoted to his career in law enforcement, particularly protecting kids, and he retired after 45 years with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office as a civil investigator. He also worked at Paradise Kennels as an obedience trainer. Darrell enjoyed deep sea fishing, hunting and had a 2nd degree black belt in martial arts.

Family members include his granddaughters: Shealy Ellis (Tyler) and Emma Jean Wright; and many devoted friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Mitzi Wright and son, Richard “Rick” Wright.

Special recognition to the staff of Pruitt Health Augusta Hills and Pruitt Hospice for all of their professional care.

The memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Mr. Pat Young and Mr. Freddie Sanders officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present officers of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
