Claudia Morris

Mrs. Claudia D. Morris passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the age of 75, at her home in Augusta, GA. She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Hal W. Morris. She also leaves her son Christopher Darr of Memphis, TN; daughter Sarah Quinones of San Antonio, TX; son Andy Morris of Augusta; grandchildren Laura Quinones, William Quinones, Peyton Morris, Isabel Quinones and Colton Morris and two step-grandchildren; and brother Lawrence Culbreath of Searcy, Arkansas.

She was born Mary Claudia Culbreath on December 17, 1950 in Memphis to her loving parents Floyd and Laura Culbreath, who preceded her in death. She was raised in the Berclair and Sea Isle neighborhoods of Memphis, attended Berclair Baptist and Second Baptist churches, and graduated from White Station High School in 1968. She was employed in the admissions department of Baptist Memorial Hospital and, upon its opening in 1979, Baptist Memorial Hospital – East, before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.

Claudia and Hal moved their family to Augusta in 1989. While she never regretted being a stay-at-home wife and mom, Claudia would have succeeded in many professions, especially teaching, research and writing. She was an intelligent, inquisitive woman with deep interests in many subjects, particularly history, current events, and the Latin language which she studied since high school. She was an avid collector of books throughout her life, accumulating an impressive home library. Claudia also had a lifelong love of music, singing and touring with her church choir as a teenager, playing the organ and then, later in life, learning piano. Her travels with Hal included Bermuda and South Africa as well as numerous vacations to Hilton Head, SC.

Her foremost interest, though, was her family who she loved and nurtured. Claudia’s children and grandchildren are enriched by the many interests, arts, crafts, movies, TV shows and fun activities to which she introduced them, her playful sense of humor, and of course her enduring Christian faith. She always strived to create a happy, welcoming home for her family to enjoy and retreat to. They are comforted in the knowledge she has now been welcomed home into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ.

A private memorial service for her family and friends will be held at a later date.
