Brenda Kathryn Long Williamson

Augusta, GA – Brenda Kathryn Long Williamson, 79, passed unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep and was reunited with her beloved husband, Hance, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. She was the loving wife of 57 years to the late Hance Hulett Williamson, Jr., and the oldest daughter of the late Herbert Vance Long and Inez Herndon Long. Her sisters, Donna Camacho of Savannah, GA, and Sandra Bessent of Charleston, SC, survive her.

Brenda was born on January 6, 1947. She was raised in Charleston, SC, graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a degree in nursing, and returned to Charleston to begin her career as a floor nurse at the Medical College of South Carolina. It was during a blind date on Sullivan's Island that summer that she met Hance. They were married on March 8, 1969, at Pinecrest Baptist Church. Following the birth of her first child, she dedicated herself fully to being a stay-at-home mother.

Her family was her pride and joy. She lovingly raised her four children as her family eventually settled in Augusta in 1981 to build their home. Family members include her children: Angela Osborne (Mike Heimerl), Brendan Williamson (Anahita), Carey Williamson (Amy), and Curtis Williamson (Ashleigh); and her five grandchildren: Mackenzie Osborne (Sven Barr), Lily Williamson, Conner Williamson, Vance Williamson, and Aubrey Williamson.

Brenda lived a life defined by quiet confidence, deep devotion to her family and faith, and a proud career in nursing. After raising her children, she successfully completed an RN reentry program at the Medical College of Georgia, returning to the profession she loved. She served as a staff nurse, an infusion nurse, and ultimately retired in 2008 as the Nurse Coordinator for the MCG Ambulatory Care Medicine Clinics.

Brenda was a devout Christian who committed her life to following Jesus at the age of ten. She was an active and deeply involved member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. As her pastor put it, she wasn't simply a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta - she was the church. She sang for decades with both the First Baptist Church Augusta Choir and the 1st Family Singers, taught 4th-grade Sunday School, was a member of the Caring Coed Sunday School class, served alongside her husband in the Bridge Ministry for 12 years, and was honored to be elected as a Deacon. She continued to be active through this summer - in both choirs, Sunday School, Benevolence, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, deeply involved with Bridge Builder Communities and more.

Her love for her family and friends was unconditional. She made sure everyone around her knew, without doubt, that they were loved - a gift they will carry with them always. She lived a life of service to everyone around her - as a daughter, sister, Christian, nurse, wife, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend.

The Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Pastor Will Dyer officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Garden at First Baptist Church of Augusta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
