Martinez, GA – Robert (Bob) Webster Gardner, 96, of Martinez, Georgia, passed away on September 12, 2026. Born on September 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert and Martha (Palmer) Gardner.
He served his country through the U.S. Army in overseas assignments, including Japan and the Korean War. Upon returning home, Bob graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He was a dedicated professional, working for Westinghouse Corporation in various capacities, including an assignment in Rio de Janeiro, until 1989. Afterwards, he continued to pass along his experience by conducting seminars and teaching at Aiken Tech and Savannah River Site. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and faith.
A loving husband and proud father, Bob was preceded in death by his oldest son, Robert Gardner (Cathy). He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ellie Agee Gardner; sons Curt Gardner (Jeri) and Mark Gardner (Kirsten); and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Gardner (Beth), Ashley Townsend (Brad), Brian Gardner (Mary), Beth Ensley (John), Olivia Gardner, Rebecca Sheldon (Chip), and Max Gardner; and his great-grandchildren, Robbie, Caroline, Ben, Elijah, Samuel, Ellie, Isla, Henry, Joshua, Abigail, Miriam, and Gwendolyn.
Bob was a man of many passions. He found joy in playing golf and was a member of West Lake Country Club for 25 years. He was often seen working in the yard or building his decorative garden walls. He also loved a good game of cribbage or reading a good book. He was a devoted member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Bob’s life was defined by kindness, hard work, and unwavering faith. He had a special gift of making people feel valued and was treasured for his wonderful sense of humor.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church (4232 Evans to Locks Road, Evans, Georgia 30809) on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-11:45am. Interment will occur the following day in Meadows of Dan, Virginia at 11am.
Bob’s legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
