Beatrice Ann Dodd

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, September 25, 2026, Beatrice A. Dodd, 90, daughter of the late Bearden Allen Dodd and Lucille Chesnut Dodd.

Born in Atlanta on May 23, 1936, Bea grew up in Augusta and graduated from Academy of Richmond County in 1954. She went on to attend Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She married Travis Stanley Barnes, with whom she had two sons; the couple later divorced.

Bea gave generously of her time to the Augusta community. She was an active member of the Junior League of Augusta and served as a volunteer at the Augusta Museum of History and the Brahe House. Raised in St. John United Methodist Church, she later joined the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She made her home on Park Avenue for 70 years.

A patron of the arts, Bea especially enjoyed the Augusta Opera and opened her home to visiting artists performing with the company.

An animal lover and an avid gardener, Bea found great joy in her pets and in tending her garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, Bearden Allen Dodd.

She is survived by her sons, Travis Stanley Barnes Jr. (Tenley) of Tallahassee and Bearden Dodd Barnes (Jill) of Atlanta; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who lovingly assisted Beatrice in her final years.
