Audrey Marie Binet

AN ANGEL GETS HER WINGS

Audrey Marie Binet (née Grier) of Evans, GA, our angel, was born into Eternal Life on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026.

Audrey resided at Brandon Wilde retirement community in Evans, GA. She was loved and well cared for by the nursing staff and the office staff as well. Everyone had a special place in their heart for Audrey. It was impossible not to. She was just that special. Her loving nature brought out the loving nature in everyone around her.

Audrey entered this world on January 29, 1937, in Fargo, ND. She was the beloved daughter of Elbert and Luetta Grier, and she was definitely “daddy’s girl.” Many years later, as a lively and hardworking young lady, Audrey was spotted by locals as a waitress at the A&W Restaurant in town, saving her tips for college. After graduating with a BA from the University of North Dakota, Audrey entered nursing school, became a nurse and then met her future husband, the ever-charming, brilliant medical student and soon-to-be doctor, Eugene F. Binet— aka, “Gene-O”.

As devout Catholics and ever-faithful servants of God, Audrey and Eugene were married on May 5, 1962, in the Church of St. Peter North St. Paul, MN whereupon they were fruitful and subsequently multiplied. After the birth of her first child, Scott, in St. Paul, MN in 1963, she dedicated herself fully to being a stay-at-home mother. She faithfully followed her husband to Camp Le Jeune, NC where he served in the United States Naval Reserve and while there her second son Todd, was born. Several years later they crossed the country again back to Minnesota where Gene was pursuing a residency in Radiology. In Minneapolis, in 1967 she gave birth to her daughter Lynne Marie. In 1969 they landed in Manlius, NY as Gene further pursued his medical career. During her time spent in Manlius, her fourth son, Mark and then her last child Matthew were both born. In 1978 her family of 7 moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, yet again faithfully following her husband as his medical career progressed. Audrey absolutely loved her life in Little Rock. She had so many special friends whom she cherished, and they cherished her in return. They affectionately referred to her as “a teacher of the WORD”. In 1988 she left little Rock, AR headed to Augusta, GA because Gene had found the top rung on his medical career ladder. She hated to leave her many great friends in Little Rock, but she continued to support her husband.

It was in Augusta that Audrey learned of the Secular Franciscan Fraternity. She became very active as a Secular Franciscan in the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Fraternity, Augusta, GA which she professed to on November 27, 1993. She served as Regional Minister (1998-2004) and in numerous other capacities. The fraternity warmly said of her that “she was kind, patient and deeply spiritual. She will be welcomed with open arms in Heaven.”

Some of Audrey’s favorite hobbies were playing cards, namely Bridge and Liverpool (affectionately referred to as “Binet Pool”). In earlier years of her marriage, she liked to practice calligraphy, gardening and often made Rutabaga pie. She also loved playing tennis and was quite good at it. She and Gene would regularly play doubles together in various leagues.

Audrey also loved to project the word of God as a lector at mass. But her favorite activity was to read scripture and recite the Lord’s Prayer and the Rosary daily. Over her lifetime, Audrey was a parishioner at the following churches: the Church of St. Peter North St. Paul, MN; St. Ann’s Church in Manlius, NY; Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR; St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta, GA; and St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, GA.

Over the course of her religious life, Audrey’s commitment to St. Francis, God, Jesus, and Mary purified her Heart. This is why we think of her as our Angel. She gave it all up to God and became an unstoppable force for love in this world. Even her voicemail greeting– “May the Lord give you peace”– was but one of the many ways Audrey brought her Franciscan joy to everything she did.

Audrey is survived by— more importantly, celebrated by— her children Rev. Scott Binet, M.D., of Kingstree, SC, Todd (Heidi) Binet of Houston, TX, Lynne (John) Vaiden of Evans, GA, Mark (Tracy Malouin) Binet of Columbus, OH and Matthew (Paola) Binet of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Thomas (Ashlee) Vaiden, Hailee (Eric) Rutledge, Jacob Vaiden, Luke Binet, Burke Binet and Noah Binet and two great grandsons, Gunner Vaiden and Robb Rutledge. Audrey was deeply loved by all her family, and she deeply loved them in return.

Audrey is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, her parents Elbert and Luetta Grier and her brother Richard Grier.

Our Angel is Home now. She has her wings. We miss her deeply and we are so happy for her. She is blessed. We are blessed. We are inexpressibly grateful for the time we shared with our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is finally at peace and is with God, Jesus, Mary, St. Francis and Gene-O.

In closing, we would like to share Audrey’s favorite prayer, The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

The Catholic celebration of life funeral mass for Audrey will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Rd, Grovetown, GA 30813. Preceding the mass, at 2:15 p.m., the Secular Franciscans will hold a Wake Service. Following the mass there will be a procession to the columbarium behind the church for internment.
