Ann Harrington Dinkins

Mrs. Ann Harrington Dinkins, loving wife of Ernest R. Dinkins, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026. In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by a son, Ernest R. “Rod” Dinkins, Jr. (Crystal) daughters: Janet D. Vaughan (Billy), Donna D. Zapata (Rob), grandchildren: Christopher Waters (Grace), Chassidy Dinkins, Margaret Ann Johnson, Brooklyn Dinkins, Bristol Jenkins, Shelby Johnson, Britain Dinkins and 3 great grandchildren; sister Sara Byne (Miller); sister-in-law, Ann Harrington; and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Myron Charles Harrington and Irene Craig Harrington; and brother, the late Colonel Myron C. Harrington, USMC retired.

Although born in Augusta, her family moved shortly after to Decatur. Ann graduated from Decatur High School, LaGrange College and Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. She went on to teach Physical Education for several years before moving to Augusta and working at First Federal Savings & Loan up until she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 32. Ann remained active with the Irish American Society, GaSCar Car Club, and the Shade Tree A’s. She enjoyed all of the trips and activities involved with all of those clubs, making lifelong friends along the way. She was a faithful and active member at Church of Our Saviour Episcopal Church.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Waters, Billy Vaughan, Rob Zapata, Donald Waters, Paul Ianuario, and Gerald Melchiors.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with The Very Rev. Al Crumpton, IV officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
